can I just-

if you don’t like someone’s blog? unfollow them

If you don’t like someone’s fic? stop reading it

if you don’t like how somebody is characterizing your blorbo - ignore/block

If you follow someone you like, but notice they post things that you don’t like? block the tags

If you see someone tag something incorrectly/don’t tag it at all? kindly inform them

If you see somebody make a mistake, do not attack them. human error is a thing, and most of the time people are super apologetic about it.

You’re absolutely allowed to be passionate about what you love, but your experience engaging in fandom is entirely your own.

And honestly, if the experience feels overwhelming or is making you miserable, just log off for a few days…take a deep breathe, go outside, bathe in the sun or sit under a tree… but follow and engage with others who make this joyful for you (that’s the whole point here!)

because there is literally zero reason for you to send hate messages, fight with people online, or get angry over fictional characters or ships.

fucking LMAO.

Also i love how the fash dickhead Enrique Tario is using the mag pouches on his plate carrier to carry two red bulls and an iphone. Just a comical image. THOSE are apparently the most important things for him to have on hand.

“trans women don’t know the unique experiences of being a woman-”

there is no fucking universal experience of being a woman. you only think that if you’re a fucking white woman who forgets women of color exist on an hourly basis.

you only think that if you assume your experience is the only experience in this world to have.

you don’t know what it’s like to be a black woman, a disabled woman, an indigenous woman, a Chinese woman, a mixed race woman, a Latina, a Pakistani woman, a Cambodian woman, a Muslim woman. You can’t know.

You can’t pretend to know.

You can’t even use “universals” like all women are afraid of men or all women have been sexually assaulted or all women know what it’s like to be condescended to, because different women experience different things according to their cultural upbringing. Some places are better or worse than others. Some places are not better or worse, but have their own equivalent issues.

Some places are densely populated and full of weirdos, some are backwoods redneck towns, full of more intimate weirdos.

Some people experience sexual grooming, sexual assault, catcalling, stalking, gender discrimination…and some people don’t.

Some people have families that support them and their sexuality.

Some people live in abusive patriarchal households and grow up haunted by their own gendered “differences,” painfully aware of how wrong the world is. Some people live in a pretty okay world, with only light grievances, and microaggressions.

Some women identify only loosely as female, and some people who are assigned female at birth reject womanhood entirely, and that completely negates any “standard” of womanhood that you cling to, because it’s just a word.

It’s a label that humans use to make sense of themselves.

But you can rip it off any time you like. You can also paste it on, even if you weren’t born with it.

Trying to apply your own womanhood to other women is wrong, foolish, and a waste of time.

And that’s why your transphobic ass is ridiculous.

By trying to “generalize” the female experience, you just totally neutralize any point you’re trying to make.

People should be able to talk about how different their experiences are, so we can talk about why some people have it worse.

Terfs are so fucking annoying because they’re typically white feminists, who don’t care about black female experiences or any other WOC’s experiences.

They refuse to acknowledge how flexible the very notion of being a woman is.

And as a result, they’re nothing but a blight upon this world, whose only purpose is to pretend that they, the angry white women, are the only people who matter.

Fuck you and fuck that.

The most common notion they seem to see intrinsic to being a woman is being sexualized, growing up with certain expectations they don’t typically want, and feeling unsafe walking alone especially at night.

Which.

I have breaking news.

Trans women are just as likely to experience these things as cis women.

The band, the music, the dance.

puts on sound 📣🎶🎵

Ok, I NEED you to understand just how insane even ATTEMPTING this was for them.

1. Playing an instrument is difficult. Doing so in sync with others even more so. Don’t think I’m stepping on any toes saying that.

2. Dancing is difficult. Doing so in sync with others even more so. Still not controversial.

3. YOU AVOID, AT ALL COSTS, MOVING YOUR BODY WHILE PLAYING A WIND INSTRUMENT.  To make the correct, pleasant sounds, you need to be in the correct form. And that form involves your ENTIRE body, even your legs when sitting down.

4. “oh, but I’ve seen marching bands before and-” MARCHING BANDS HAVE ENTIRE SCIENTIFIC FIELDS DEDICATED TO FIGURING OUT HOW TO MARCH WITH MINIMUM BREAKING OF PROPER FORM. A marching band tries to be as smooth as possible while moving, so as not to jar their instrument, mouth, neck, arms, torso, or anything else. These ladies and gentlemen are BOUNCING and still playing properly, what the FU-!

5. AND ANOTHER THING! Wind instruments and dancing BOTH make demands on your breathing, so the fact that they are dancing (making you breath faster for extra oxygen) AND playing wind instruments (making you effectively hold your breath) AT THE SAME TIME is HUGE. Their lungs must be MASSIVE.

All of that also; the song is Sing, sing, sing (with a swing). If you wanna listen to some of THE SPICIEST big band ever recorded. Its a big hard song and this band does it expertly.

I will. I will say ONE thing. As a wind instrument player, and very drunk atm for unrelated reason.

Most of the point above are correct, save for the first.

Playing in syncs with other is actually easier (Imhe, ymmv) due to a stronger base beat/rhythm/placement to follow and the ability to drop out when you need a breath knowing that there is plenty of volume to cover you and and that when you pop back in, you’ll know where you are thanks to following the players around you (and which point you then provide th same opportunity to your band mates)

The other points of course stand as posited.

if you are in the US and are at risk of unwanted pregnancy, you should buy mifepristone immediately while it’s still legal to mail so you can have it on hand just in case (it should keep for about 2 years). the future of this method of medication abortion is seriously at risk. it is very important that you are prepared for a worst case scenario

if this applies to you or a loved one go here and follow the instructions. it’s $150 so if you are not at risk of unwanted pregnancy and are able, please consider helping others with the cost, or buying some to have on hand in case someone you know needs it in the future

FEMA is doing an emergency alert test on all TVs, radios, and cell phones on October 4, 2023, at approximately 2:20pm ET.

If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.

Yes, I’m doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.

Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I’m bad at tags.

Also, when you finally turn your phone back on, make sure you are alone or can otherwise midigate the sound. Because it WILL go off the second you turn your phone back on.

Please be safe 💜

I dont know if this will go as badly as the UK test did, but the advice for at risk people DID NOT WORK for us, many people had their phones go off despite turning off the relevant settings and turning off their phones despite assurances that turning off your phone would be enough to prevent the alert.

I would highly suggest that you do not leave room for technical errors and that you store secret phones in a safe location where it cannot be heard, maybe with a friend or loved one that you can trust. Or perhaps go out with your phone to a public place.

Y’all in the American SW and west Mexico better check the national hurricane center and your weather for this weekend and next week.

Hurricane Hilary is about to make landfall and that whole desert area is supposed to get a years worth of rain or more. Death Valley is supposed to get twice the annual rainfall. Severe winds, massive flooding, and landslides are all strong possibilities.

This is gonna get ugly. Please spread the word. This is a majorly anomalous event and people may be unaware of the threat headed their way.

Flash floods are definitely gonna kill people, so here’s your regularly scheduled PSA:

Desert soil does not absorb a significant amount of water. It reaches maximum saturation very very quickly, and all the rest of the water rushes downhill. Even if you can’t tell that the ground is not perfectly flat, the water can. And it will move. Quickly. No, faster than that. Nope, still faster. If you try to cross moving floodwater, you will get swept downstream and probably die.

Do not try to wade in/cross flood water that is any deeper than the thickness of the sole of an average athletic shoe, no I am not kidding, the water will get deeper literally while you’re standing in it.

This goes for cars, too. I’ve seen entire vehicles getting swept downstream in flash floods because the driver thought they could cross the “puddle” and Found Out.

Stay safe, y’all.

also if you’re going into water intentionally (cleanup, obviously as things RECEDE), PROTECT YOUR EYES. Flood water is NASTY AS HELL and you will be getting a tetanus booster right off the bat if you end up in the ER for any reason.

Part of climate change is that Southern California is starting to get the summer monsoons that used to only happen in Arizona and Nevada. Los Angeles was not a desert until the last 15 years — it was a Mediterranean climate. Summer monsoons = desert.
